Dr Marian Makkar researches consumption communities, consumer experiences, and consumer effects on market development. More recently, her work on cultural appropriation has looked at how brands appropriate disadvantaged cultures and indigenous groups.
Marian has published in leading journals, such as the European Journal of Marketing, and has presented her work at a range of international conferences. She has also won several academic awards and university and nationwide grants.
Prior to academia, Marian began her career in PR and marketing, working with brands in the menswear, beauty, and automotive spaces.
