But it’s not all bad. There’s a growing market of self-help within social media that has been gaining popularity within different social groups. Statistics indicate that 

 have received support on social platforms whilst 

 find solace within parenting ‘fail’ memes, as it reminds them that it’s OK not to be perfect. Self-help has seen an explosive growth in popularity recently, be it physical or mental. Accounts such as @selfcareplace, @selfcaresis and @selfcarethreads have popped up in the US to aid teens on everything from finding a job to using holistic healthcare remedies.

Instagram and social media provides users with coping mechanisms within an environment they are already accustomed to. Instagram threads provide safe and trusted spaces for young people trying to find themselves, while privacy settings on posts foster discussions about safety and net neutrality. 

 strong army of people who use the #lifecoach hashtag, Connie Walkers is a premium life coach who offers one-on-one coaching sessions as well as 90-day transformations and uses Instagram to provide a more professional approach to self-help on social media.

Instagram for mothers however is proving to be a much more precarious situation, with its content proving to be quite contradictory. Almost half (42%) of mothers find that ‘looking at other mothers’ perfect lives on social media makes them feel worse’. However, adult psychiatrist Katherine Kessler says mothers on Instagram “observing others and hearing their comments might allow them to find comfort in shared experiences.”
