He is most notable for his work on Alfred Hitchcock and Jean-Luc Godard and his many years as the film critic for The Christian Science Monitor. He has a PhD in cinema studies from New York University, taught at Columbia University for 25 years, and was the chair of the National Society of Film Critics for ten years. His writings and speakings on film and film culture have appeared in publications including The New York Times and National Public Radio program All Things Considered, where he was a film critic for two years.
Max Redinger is a filmmaker and editor at No6 post-production company. He has worked at production companies in Los Angeles and movie theaters around Manhattan, and is currently working on a feature-length film based on the experience.
