Behind Australia's resale fashion revolution

With three quarters of Australians buying preloved clothing, the resale revolution is big. Retailers are taking the reins, as an emergence of new technology is changing the way Aussies shop. How are brands and consumers adapting to this paradigm shift? And is it as sustainable as it’s slated to be?

Harriette Richards

Dr Harriette Richards is an academic and researcher specialising in fashion sustainability and consumer culture at Melbourne’s RMIT University. She is co-founder of the Critical Fashion Studies research group and co-host of the Critical Fashion Studies podcast. She is currently working on projects investigating modern slavery, consumer culture, and radical transparency in the Australian fashion industry, and her broader research interests include fashion in Aotearoa New Zealand, settler colonial theory, melancholia, ethical and sustainable fashion, feminist framings of value, and the future of fashion.

Karen Freidin

Karen Friedin has worked in the sustainability sector for the last 15 years. She has expertise in supply chain decarbonisation, net-zero transitions, partnership development, and stakeholder management. With a passion to develop business as a force for good and to address the multiple challenges within the fashion industry, Karen founded Reluv Clothing in 2019. Reluv is an online ecommerce platform for buying and selling top quality preloved clothing which aims to increase the utilisation rate of clothes and improve the lives of the women who make them.
