The 2024-2025 Generational Snapshot of Gen Alpha explores the rise of ‘phygital’ play, how gaming has created an innovative space for socialising and creativity, what it means to be an AI native, and how this cohort is articulating their unique mental health challenges.
Dr. Sara Grimes is the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy, a Full Professor, and Director of the Kids Play Tech Lab at McGill University. She's a globally recognised expert on children’s digital play, creativity, and culture and the author of the award-winning book Digital Playgrounds (UTPress, 2021). Her research explores the design, regulation, and use of digital media and technologies made for and by children and the impacts on children's rights, wellbeing, and learning. She's currently leading a study of children's thoughts about 'age-appropriate design' in games and collaborating with an indie studio on a rights-by-design children's game about climate change.
Nicolas Lopez is a New York-based behavioural analyst at Canvas8. He holds a degree in political science from Columbia University. His research is driven by the relationship between the political, material, and cultural spheres. Outside of work, he can be found writing fiction and riding his bike with no hands.
