Sustainability is a key concern for people. But how are luxury fashion brands helping or harming this cause? Investing in true quality and supporting new sustainable raw materials is helping to boost sustainability across the industry, but greenwashing remains a persistent problem.
Kavita Parmar is a designer, product developer, and the founder of XTANT, a community of artisan makers, and GUNAKAZI, a social network for garment workers. She’s won several awards for innovation, sustainability, and leadership, and consults for clients including Nike and Levi’s.
Dr Federica Carlotto, a social anthropologist specialising in luxury and fashion, has provided consumer behavioural and branding insight for brands including Quintessentially, Fortnum & Mason, and Versace. She leads the masters in luxury business programme at Sotheby’s Institute of Art.
Sara Rosenthal is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and independent researcher from California. With an MA from Central Saint Martins in London, she runs an art space in Athens, Greece, and crafts content for the Textile Society of America. Her writing on sustainable textiles is due to appear in the forthcoming ten-volume Encyclopedia of World Textiles, to be published by Bloomsbury.
