The realities of the loneliness epidemic have grown impossible to ignore, with many pointing to digital-first lifestyles as a driving force of social isolation. But could digital connectivity be leveraged for good to help repair human connection? Canvas8 spoke to Brandon C. Bouchillon to find out.
Brandon C. Bouchillon is an associate professor of journalism at the University of Arkansas and author of ‘How to fight loneliness: The importance of networked friendship quality and self-esteem differs with age.’ His research explores the potential for social networking applications and games-based modes of social learning to promote trust and empathy, as well as reduce prejudice.
Isabella Gannon is a junior behavioural analyst at Canvas8. She holds a BA in European Studies from Trinity College Dublin, and there became interested in the relationship between media, identity and visual culture. Outside of work, she’s frequently reading, going to gigs, and navigating obscure corners of wikipedia.
