Enhancing the health of Africans, Mobilium Global has created an Android health app specifically for Africa. Called Smart Health, the free app encourages behavioural changing practices to reduce the transmission and infection rates of AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis.

iOS app Ultimeyes – created by neuroscientist Aaron Seitz – claims it can improve people's vision with a simple arcade-style game. Players have to zap blobs as they move across the screen, growing smaller and going in and out of focus, which helps 'train' their eyes.

While the immediate future is unlikely to yield AI pseudo-human carers, the notion of robots aiding the elderly is closer than ever. All over the world – especially in Japan, where more than a quarter of the population is over 65 – technology and healthcare are starting to overlap.
