Newspaper headlines may decry how teens are rotting their brains on social media, but research suggests that Gen Zers are more clued up about its impact then people think. The majority recognise the issues that come with their habit, and six in ten wouldn't mind if it was never invented.

Online abuse has people choosing not to speak up, and the individuals it’s silencing are often the minorities that most need advocating. With victims of online harassment likely to tune out of the discussion altogether, the need for brands to speak up is stronger than ever.

At age 3, around a quarter of children go online daily, increasing to about 50% by age 5. And if the internet really is as “dangerous as letting children go out into the street”, is child-friendly software and brightly-coloured ‘kid versions’ enough to keep Gen Z surfers safe and happy?
