The visual culture fostered by Instagram and Snapchat has helped make art exhibitions major attractions for social media fodder. But there’s nothing that gets in the way of a piece of art like a tourist with a selfie stick, so The Broad has imposed a 30-second rule for each room to keep snappers moving.

While public funding bodies often invest more into London’s cultural landscape than the rest of the country’s, the Yorkshire-based Hepworth Wakefield gallery is proving that regional areas are just as worthy. Having drawn 210,000 visitors in 2016, it’s helping to democratise the arts in the UK.
