Between Peppa Pig tantrums, early morning wake-up calls, and leaking nappies, raising a kid is no walk in the park. Yet there’s an expectation that parenthood is just as glossy as the curated snaps yummy mummies and dishy dads post online; 80% of women in the UK say Instagram and Facebook add pressure to be the perfect mum. But with 52% of parents suffering from loneliness and up to 20% of British mums developing a mental illness during pregnancy, or by the time their tot turns one, parents are opening up about the stresses of real parenting – in a bid to eschew the idealised perfection.
