Annalisa Merelli is a senior reporter at Quartz, where she covers the intersection of public health, the healthcare business, and inequality. She has worked as a journalist for over 15 years, reporting on social issues, human rights, policy, and politics from several countries across four continents. Prior to joining Quartz, she was the founding editor of art, culture, and lifestyle portal The India Tube and a writer and editor at Narratively, Global Voices, Timbuktu, Motherland, W+K Delhi, and Fabrica. She holds a master's degree in semiotics from the University of Bologna. Originally from Italy, she lived in France and India before moving to the US.

Motherland is a bimonthly magazine published by advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy Delhi. Launched in Autumn 2009 and with a print run of 15,000 copies, it's the only publication in India to focus on contemporary Indian subcultures.
