Architecture has historically been a male-led discipline, and even though the industry is transforming to become more inclusive, there are still barriers relating to pay, access, and exposure. So, how can the sector uplift women’s contributions and cultivate more equitable environments?
Born in Australia, Igea Troiani (PhD) is a professor of architecture and head of division of architecture at London South Bank University. She has taught or practised architecture in Australia, Germany, China, and the UK. As a practice-centred academic, her research over the last 26 years has focused on the production of the architect. She has authored five books, 50 articles and book chapters, and was editor-in-chief of Architecture and Culture from 2012 to 2022. She is the current chair of Women in Architecture (WIA UK).
Zoë Berman is the director of studio at Berman Design Group. She has a strong belief in design that supports all, and in 2018, she founded Part W, an action group that brings together women who work across architecture, design, infrastructure, and construction to campaign for gender parity across the built environment. With a passion for collaboration and creative projects, she has worked with the Projects Office at the Cass School of Architecture and also founded The Unpublishables, a publication written by and for young designers.
A former Editor of the Time Out Group’s series of guides to Lagos and Abuja, Nana has over 20 years of experience as a writer, editor and cultural consultant. She Founded the digital platform, People’s Stories Project and is also an Associate Lecturer at Omnes Education (London), a liberal arts school that is headquartered in Paris. She has worked in a cultural capacity with global brands and organisations including Danish Film Institute (Copenhagen), Institute of International Visual Arts (Iniva), Rolls Royce Muse (UK), Design Indaba (South Africa) Pernod-Ricard (Paris) and is an ongoing consultant for British Council (UK).
