Merging cultural heritage with innovation, Black British designers are reshaping London’s fashion scene. But can they continue driving change in an industry still marred by under-representation and unequal access to opportunities while maintaining their creative integrity?

Beatrice Newman

Innovative fashion designer, educator, and textile expert, Beatrice Newman is the founder of womenswear brand Korlekie. With a Master's in digital fashion from London College of Fashion, she heads the Department of Fashion at the University of East London.

Tania Phipps-Rufus

Tania Phipps-Rufus is an expert in fashion law, intellectual property, and cultural analysis, offering insights into legal trends and cultural shifts in the fashion industry. As a senior lecturer and course leader in Fashion Cultures and Business Management at the University of East London, she explores key topics like sustainability, cultural heritage, and diversity. Awarded an AHRC-funded scholarship, her PhD research focuses on IP in fashion, working closely with industry leaders.
