Young people in China are obsessed with romantic comedies. Given the wave of disaffected Chinese youth, frustrated with low-paying jobs and few dating prospects in a gender imbalanced society, fairytale endings have a very real appeal for the country's youth.

A sexual awakening is occurring in China. As young people experiment with sex, drugs and civil disobedience, this shift has shades of the West’s cultural upheaval in the ‘60s. But are conservative values still shackling the majority? And to what extent can China’s youth really cut loose?

China is known for it’s tight censorship laws. And in July 2017, Justin Bieber joined the ranks of Western musicians that are no longer welcome in the country. Authorities hope that by banning the ‘controversial singer’ it can “maintain order" and "purify the Chinese performance environment.”
