Whether it’s betting on horses or buying a scratchy, gambling is big business. In fact, 68% of Brits gamble in some form. But with the industry’s tainted reputation threatening its future, what’s now driving people to place a wager? Canvas8 sat down with 20 men and women to find out why they gamble.

They may not be smoking or taking drugs, but British teens are placing their bets. Be it on card games, fruit machines or via apps, almost half a million young teenagers are gambling. The overall rate of gambling among 11- to 15-year-olds is now 16% – which is twice that of drinking alcohol.

House prices in the UK have never been higher, and while some choose to sulk, others are getting creative. Some young people are heading to houseboats, with the number of Brits living on boats rising 50% between 2011 and 2015. But is life on the water as tranquil as it sounds?

“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life,” so the saying goes. But men and women between the ages of 30 and 39 are fleeing the capital. Are property prices just driving them out, or is London really cooling? Will the supposed mass migration prompt a rebalancing of pricing and opportunities?
