Why American pride is on the decline for Gen Z

Having witnessed a plethora of social, political, and economic upheavals on the path to adulthood, Gen Zers in the US are exhibiting far less pride in their nation than their older counterparts. How do young adults now define the American Dream? And how can brands speak to their ideas of patriotism?

David McCabe

David McCabe is a philosophy professor at Colgate University. He specialises in the philosophy of patriotism and nationalism, and his current research focuses on political corruption, moral dilemmas, and morality within liberal democracies. His paper, ‘Patriotism and Politics’, was published in Springer’s Handbook of Patriotism. He has taught senior seminars on patriotism and moral points of view as well as courses on modern political philosophy.
