2025 Expert Outlook on Citizenship

Will a new political order impact civic optimism? How will AI influence climate action, and will AI's environmental impact accelerate experiences of extreme weather? And how will individualism change expectations of ESG? We speak to three experts about society, politics, and the environment in 2025.

Sophia Kianni

Sophia Kianni represents the US as the youngest member on the United Nations Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. She is an undergraduate student at Stanford University, and the founder and executive director of Climate Cardinals, a nonprofit with 8,000 volunteers in 40+ countries working to translate climate information into 100 languages. She is also a senior partner at JUV Consulting, a Gen Z marketing agency. Sophia’s work has been covered by Forbes, CNN, Business Insider, BBC, NPR, Time, The Guardian, NBC, and The Washington Post. She has been named Vice Media's youngest Human of the Year and one of Teen Vogue's 21 under 21.

Alex Holmes

Alex is deputy CEO at non-profit The Diana Award, a legacy of Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change the world. He's also founder of the peer-to-peer support programme Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, a network of trained young people dedicated to preventing peer-on-peer violence and bullying, particularly in schools. He sits on the global safety advisory boards of several major social media and tech companies advising their approach to safety and online harms. Named Independent on Sunday's Happy List, 1 of ‘100 people who make Britain a happier place to live’, he has a keen interest in the barriers to children’s happiness and wellbeing.

Natalie Sum Yue Chung

In 2018, Natalie Chung and a team of environmentalists founded V'air Sustainability Education, a social enterprise promoting sustainable tourism and climate education that transforms nature-based experiences for the private and public sectors. She holds an MPhil in environmental management from the University of Oxford and is a global shaper at the World Economic Forum. Previously, Chung has been appointed to serve on advisory councils of the Hong Kong government, including the Council for Carbon Neutrality and the Green Tech Fund Assessment Committee. She was the sole HK representative at the Antarctic Climate Expedition led by Dr. Sylvia Earle.
