How can Asia cater to LGBTQ tourists seeking safety and inclusion?

With a multi-billion-dollar pink opportunity on the horizon, governments and businesses around the world are investing in products and services to appeal to queer travellers. When it comes to travel, safety and acceptance are top of mind for the community. How can companies offer this while authentically tapping into LGBTQ+ groups?

Stefan Arestis

Stefan Arestis is one half of gay travel blog duo ‘Nomadic Boys’. In 2014 the couple took an 18-month trip around Asia, documenting their experiences travelling as a gay couple. They published The Gay Guide to Travelling with Pride to help other gay travellers plan fun and safe trips.

Ahana Roy

Ahana Roy, a researcher from India, specialises in gender politics in China. She’s written about China’s LGBTQ+ community and women's political representation in Chinese elite politics for the Organisation for Research on China and Asia (ORCA). Her research interests encompass non-traditional security studies, particularly focusing on gender and sexuality, as well as authoritarianism, political institutions, and Chinese society and culture. She holds a master’s degree in political science with international relations from Jadavpur University, Kolkata.
