How can campaign design influence American voters?

From Obama’s ‘Hope’ poster to Trump’s red MAGA hat, strong visual cues are capable of rousing Americans’ energy for civic engagement – for better or for worse. But just how impactful is design in shaping the minds of voters? And how is it being used in the 2018 midterm elections?

Dr. Jilly Traganou

Dr. Jilly Traganou is an architect and associate professor in spatial design studies at Parsons School of Design. Her work examines space and architecture at the intersection of design studies, and her current work is focused on relations between design, dissent, migration, and conditions of crisis, as well as on design’s role in the configuration of new national and post-national identities.

Suraj Patel

Suraj Patel is a congressional candidate for New York’s 12th district, and is a graduate of Stanford University, holding both a JD from NYU School of Law and a Masters of Public Policy from Cambridge University. He is also an adjunct professor of business ethics, focusing on markets, ethics, and the law.

Anjelica Triola

Anjelica Triola is the chief creative officer for the Suraj Patel congressional campaign and the founder of Creative Caucus, which seeks to reinvent the way political campaigns engage audiences by building a grassroots community of talented content creators to support the next generation of leaders.

Zach Soudan

Zach Soudan is an interaction designer, user researcher, and behavioral analyst who practices between London and New York. Previously a designer at IDEO, he has worked with start-ups, US governmental agencies, and leading Fortune 500 companies to assess, plan, design, and launch innovative products. His recent work looks to utilise non-linear processes within a 360-design approach to address the increasing complexity of social interactions within emerging technologies and the shifting political landscapes in which design operates.
