What’s driving Gen Z careers in Australia?

The youngest members of Australia’s workforce face challenges as they find ways to make a path for themselves amid a cost of living crisis. As they navigate a competitive job market, they are unafraid to break down long-standing norms to find career options that suit their goals and preferences.

Simon Chang

Dr Simon Chang is an economist at the University of Western Australia (UWA). He studies how human behaviour interacts with social, demographic, and environmental factors. His recent research interest lies in the nexus of environmental sustainability, human wellbeing, and educational attainment. He also studies marriage competition in countries with imbalanced gender ratios. His past works have appeared in esteemed international journals. He currently holds external affiliations with world-renowned institutions, including the Institute for the Study of Labor, the Global Labor Organization, and the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at the Australian National University.

Sarah Ramantanis

Sarah is an established leader across the for-purpose, government and education sectors. Her current roles include being the CEO of Young Australians in International Affairs and being the Marketing and Communications Manager at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute, based at the University of Melbourne. She has held previous roles at the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition, General Sir John Monash Foundation, and Philanthropy Australia. Possessing an entrepreneurial mindset, she co-founded KOS Magazine, a platform that publishes stories on how everyday people positively impact their local and wider communities to create change. She is also a TEDx speaker, holds a Master of Marketing from Monash University, has completed the AICD Governance NFP Directors course, and was recognised as a 2023 McKinsey & Company Rising Young Leader. With a passion for empowering the next generation of changemakers, Sarah’s goal is to become an impactful leader in international affairs to create sustainable change for youth across the globe.

Gwyneth King

Gwyneth King is a multimedia storyteller based in Metro Manila, Philippines, with a BA in Communication Arts from De La Salle University. She is a curious human who translates her perspectives on the lived experience into writing, often intertwining her sentimentality and tenderness between the lines.
