Why are young Americans choosing left-wing media?

Young Americans have long voted with their spending power, but as the status quo for Gen Zers and Yers continues to feel underwhelming, there’s been a rise in left-wing media platforms that advocate for alternative visions for the future. So, what can news providers learn from this shift?

Nolan Higdon

Professor Nolan Higdon is professor of history, education, and media studies. Professor Higdon’s areas of focus include journalism, podcasting, digital culture, news media history, and critical media literacy. He's the author of The Anatomy of Fake News: A Critical News Literacy Education; Let’s Agree to Disagree: A Critical Thinking Guide to Communication, Conflict Management, and Critical Media Literacy; and The Podcaster's Dilemma: Decolonizing Podcasters in the Era of Surveillance Capitalism. He's a founding member of the Critical Media Literacy Conference and has been a source of expertise for leading news outlets.

Joshua Citarella

Joshua Citarella is an artist and internet culture researcher based in New York City. He has taught at the School of Visual Arts as well and the Rhode Island School of Design.
