Berlin’s club scene is getting a post-pandemic revamp

The influence of a new wave of DJs, promoters, and audiences—many too young to have engaged with club culture before the pandemic—is breathing fresh, Gen Z tones into Berlin’s established club scene. A new landscape of social media/activist awareness is helping to change the world of nightlife.

Lutz Leichsenring

Lutz is one of Berlin’s leading nightlife experts. Spokesperson for The Berlin Club Commission and co-founder of Vibelab Network, Lutz is also a board member of Music Board Berlin and a consultant for the Vienna Club Commission.

Lilia van Beukering

Lilia is the founder of Femme Bass Mafia, a Berlin-based training program for femme, trans, and non-binary DJs. She is also a booker at the club RSO, and DJs under the name Dangermami.

John Thorp

John is a music culture writer, DJ, and consultant. He is founder of the Hot Concept label, co-runs the Phantasy label, and is a host on Berlin’s Refuge Worldwide and Cashmere Radio.

Paul Hanford

Paul Hanford has over two decades of experience across music, arts, and culture. He shares his expertise in workshops on the radio for Apple and as a lecturer at BIMM University. He’s written for publications ranging from Wired to Mixmag, curated events from Tate Modern to Cannes Film Festival, and worked for event companies like Secret Cinema. His book Coming To Berlin has received coverage on BBC 6 Music, Mixmag, DJ Mag, and The Wire.
