Navigating the queer future of travel

The LGBTQ+ travel market demands authentic allyship but creating an inclusive environment means going beyond stereotypes and embracing the diversity of queer identities to understand the intersectional needs of the LGBTQ+ community. How can brands put meaningful action behind their Pride flags?

​​John Tanzella is president/CEO of the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA), a nonprofit association that is the global leader in advancing LGBTQ+ travel and the only LGBTQ+ Affiliate Member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Tanzella is a 25-year tourism industry veteran, and he serves on the board of directors for the Stonewall National Museum and Archives and Tourism Diversity Matters.


Thea Bardot

Thea Bardot is the CEO of Lightning Travel Recruitment, a recruitment consultancy which specialises in consciously connecting humans with businesses in the luxury travel and lifestyle sector. Bardot is one of LinkedIn’s top ten LGBTQ+ UK content creators and a multi-award-winning travel recruitment industry leader. Bardot is also a regular speaker at travel events, sharing their unique perspective as a non-binary business owner, and has written for Conde Nast and been featured in Forbes.

Maria Eilersen

Maria Eilersen is a queer freelance journalist specialising in travel, LGBTQ+ issues and mental health based in Lisbon. Her writing has appeared in places like Women’s Health, Travel+Leisure, Interview Magazine, and she’s been featured as an expert in CNBC, Business Insider, PopSugar, and the Well, Actually newsletter. In addition to her writing, Eilersen is a yoga teacher and EFT tapping practitioner, as well as the founder of Be Conscious PR and press volunteer for Bi Pride UK.
