A Cultural Snapshot of Japan: 2024

How is Japan’s shrinking, ageing population impacting locals’ decisions? Are government efforts to regulate work hours actually leading to shifts in Japan’s notoriously overworked society? This Cultural Snapshot uses local stats to explore the behavioural norms shared by people in Japan in 2024.

Yoko Konishi

Yoko Konishi has served as a senior fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI) since 2008. Prior to working at the RIETI, she was an assistant professor at the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, from 2006 to 2008. Dr. Konishi received a Ph.D. in Economics from Nagoya University in 2003.
